Maitri: The Quiet Power of Self-Kindness

Today we call it “self-love,” but the Buddha understood it deeper through Maitri, the art of truly befriending yourself. As the modern concept of self-love can turn into a comparison, an ego, Maitri is silent and withdrawn, yet equalizing. It is full of grace, and extends it to every soul, yours included.

When you are your own friend, self-destructive behaviors fall away, and you find true clarity, wisdom and inner peace. You stop judging yourself and start loving yourself. Service to others can never come from a tired soul but only from a soul in which its depths have been healed, and from which compassion flows like a river.
